Child Trafficking
Countless number of children go missing every year. Every day, around 150 children go missing in India – kidnapping and abduction is the largest crime against children in our country (National Crime Record Bureau 2016). The category of missing children includes a number of possible reasons such as abduction or kidnapping of children by family members and by non-family members, run-away children or those forced to run away by family and surrounding circumstances, children who are in a difficult or aggressive environment, trafficked children or lost children. Missing children often end up on the streets in poverty.
According to UNICEF a child victim of trafficking is any person under 18 who is recruited, transported, transferred, harbored or received for the purpose of exploitation, either within or outside a country. Female children are trafficked for marriage, sex-work, criminal activity, adoption and organ trade whereas male children are trafficked mainly for labour and exploited as beggars. Sometimes, trafficked children are also recruited into armed groups or for criminal activity.
At Justice For India Foundation, our core mission is to fight against child trafficking and protect the rights and futures of vulnerable children around the world. Child trafficking is a grave violation of human rights and a global crisis that robs millions of children of their freedom, safety, and dignity. Our dedicated team is committed to addressing this issue through a comprehensive approach that combines prevention, rescue, rehabilitation, and advocacy.
Understanding Child Trafficking
Child trafficking involves the illegal trade of children for various forms of exploitation, including forced labor, sexual exploitation, and involuntary servitude. Traffickers often prey on the most vulnerable, exploiting socio-economic disparities and weaknesses in social protection systems. The impact on trafficked children is profound, affecting their physical health, emotional well-being, and overall development. Our work is grounded in the belief that every child deserves to live free from exploitation and harm.
Our Approach
01. Prevention and Awareness: Prevention is at the heart of our efforts to combat child trafficking. We conduct awareness campaigns to educate communities about the dangers of trafficking and the signs to look out for. By working with local schools, community groups, and families, we help raise awareness about the risks and foster a culture of vigilance and protection. Our educational programs also focus on informing children about their rights and how to seek help if they are in danger.
02. Rescue and Support: The immediate safety and well-being of trafficked children are our top priorities. We collaborate with law enforcement agencies and other organizations to facilitate the rescue of children from trafficking situations. Once rescued, children receive comprehensive support, including emergency shelter, medical care, psychological counseling, and legal assistance. Our goal is to ensure that they are safe and supported as they begin their journey toward recovery and reintegration.
03. Rehabilitation and Reintegration: Rehabilitation is a critical step in helping trafficked children reclaim their lives. Our programs offer long-term support to address the physical and emotional trauma experienced by these children. We provide access to education and vocational training to empower them with the skills needed for a successful future. Reintegration into their families and communities is carefully managed to ensure a stable and supportive environment, helping children rebuild their lives with dignity and hope.
04. Advocacy and Policy Change: Effecting systemic change is essential for addressing the root causes of child trafficking. We actively engage with policymakers, government agencies, and international bodies to advocate for stronger anti-trafficking laws and policies. Our advocacy efforts focus on improving legal frameworks, enhancing victim protection measures, and promoting better coordination among stakeholders. We strive to create a robust legal and social environment that effectively combats trafficking and supports victims.
05. Partnerships and Collaboration: Combating child trafficking requires a coordinated and collaborative effort. We work with a network of local, national, and international partners, including NGOs, community organizations, and government agencies. By pooling resources, sharing expertise, and aligning strategies, we enhance our collective impact and ensure a more effective response to trafficking.
06. Monitoring and Evaluation: To measure the effectiveness of our programs and ensure accountability, we employ rigorous monitoring and evaluation processes. Regular assessments help us understand the impact of our interventions, identify areas for improvement, and make data-driven decisions. Transparency and continuous improvement are central to our approach, ensuring that our efforts are both effective and responsive to the needs of trafficked children.
